PUA20713 Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting Operations)

What is the program?

Magenta Safety Training offers a program that is run in secondary schools for students completing VCAL as part of their year 10-12 studies.

Students will enroll in 180-200 hours of training from the Public Safety Training Package – PUA20713 Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting Operations).

Schools have the option of running the program for one year and gaining 8 units from the qualification, or completing two years and gaining the full Certificate II qualification.

How does the program run?

  • Trainers from MST will attend the school once a week for six months, or every two weeks for a year to deliver the training and assessment (a total of 17 sessions)
  • The program involves both theory and practical training sessions
  • Students will receive a workbook to complete throughout the program
  • Students will also complete competency based assessments throughout the program
  • All firefighting equipment used is supplied by MST, and is of the current standard being used by Victorian fire services
  • While the training is based around the firefighting training package, the knowledge and skills that are taught are transferable to almost any industry

How much does the program cost?

The program attracts VETis funding, at the current rate (2015) of $716 per student (Students must be enrolled in VASS prior to relevant VCAA cut off dates to receive funding)

We charge a cost of $715 per student, meaning the program can be run by schools on a cost neutral basis. The ideal class size is between 12 - 25 students. We can run the program with less than 12, however we require to invoice for a minimum of 12 students.
